Leave it to CHANEL to help make the last day of January a more memorable one.
In a buzzy teaser film shared to social media, the luxury French fashion house revealed superstar singer Dua Lipa as the face of a new campaign for its CHANEL 25 handbag.
In the clip, the singer-songwriter appears in various looks — and with various 25 bags — as she makes her way through a day in New York City to the soundtrack of "She Drives Me Crazy” by the Fine Young Cannibals.
Showcasing the versatility of the shoulder bag, Lipa wears it alongside a full denim ensemble, a cropped black tweed top, matching jacket and jeans, and other stylish looks.
“For me, this campaign is about the freedom of movement, self-expression and embracing that on-the-go energy. It’s powerful, yet playful, and above all, joyous," Lipa said of the campaign. "It’s a similar spirit that I share as an artist, so it immediately resonated with me on many levels.”
Available in three sizes — and a selection of materials including denim and metallic leather — the CHANEL 25 handbag features a few of the French fashion house's iconic codes such as quilting and a leather-interlaced chain.
Designed to be "flexible, lightweight, ingenious," the 25 is neither too precious nor tediously practical. Worn on the shoulder or carried in hand, this bag feels undeniably youthful and fun. According to Lipa, "It's just the perfect everyday bag!"
The handbag design boasts a perfect amount of Aughts exuberance via more-is-more elements such as a chain drawstring punctuated by the double Cs, while still balancing the iconic elements the luxury house is celebrated for, including two petite flap pockets (a nod to the 11.12 design) on either end of the bag.
At a time when fashion fans continue to praise minimalism, it feels refreshing to see a slightly more maximalist approach from CHANEL.
The question is: will it be the next 'It' bag?
Judging by the early buzz around the handbag release and teaser film starring Lipa, we can only guess that it will. The full CHANEL 25 handbag campaign is expected to launch in March.
