"Books are a uniquely portable magic." — Stephen King.
To read a book is to experience a certain type of power. The power to explore. The power to escape. The power to dream.
It's something I was lucky to experience at a young age, thanks to my Mom's love of books. No matter how tight the budget was, she always made sure we had books to read.
And, when money was really low, which it often was when I was young, we'd spend hours at the library delving into the dream worlds the books provided my sisters and I.
To say we were regulars at our local/school library would have been a major understatement — but those afternoons and summers spent with my nose in a book continue to be some of my fondest.
And, to this day, I've never lost my love of reading.
That's why, when @chaptersindigo asked me to lend support to the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation, I couldn't say no.
Since 2004, the foundation has given $1.5 million per year to "high-needs" elementary schools in order to expand and improve their libraries.
Now, it's your turn to give back.
Leave a comment on my Instagram post with the title of your favourite book (or post your own #ReadtheNorth shot!) and one lucky #giveaway winner will have a book prize donated in their name to an elementary school of their choice from the Love of Reading Foundation's list of recipient schools.
It's true, books offer those lucky enough to hold them a certain type of magic. And, it's something we all deserve to experience.
Happy Friday and thank you for stopping by!
